#15 Fold Fiesta/Fold and Furious: Paving the Road of Kirigami
João Neves, Daniel Matias
Supervisor(s):
Kirigami is the ancient Japanese art of paper cutting and folding. Recently there have been many experimental realizations of Kirigami inspired structures in areas such as soft electronics, smart robotis, tissue engineering and meta materials. One of the big challenges in applying this kind of structure is the probing of the different folding pathways and the full configurational space of the kirigami template during the folding process.
In this project the students will be prompted to search for the full configurational space of some templates including special cases that can fold into more than one solid. This will be done with the help of computational tools and also hands-on experimental approach using a 3D printer.
