#4 How do wounds heal... In 1D?

Every now and then we get injured, something which is quite annoying. Luckily for us, most of the injuries we get in our daily basis are things our body can handle and fix with a combo of mechanisms. And the neat thing is that we are able to relate the chemical processes behind these mechanisms with physical properties and tensions, which can be modelled and simulated, which is right up our alley.

We have several models which may be discrete or continuous, each of them with their own advantages and disadvantages, based on the level of detail and scale we want our model to work on.

Our goal for this summer project will be to explore the wound healing process in 1 dimension, and to understand the differences in the predictions we get from a discrete and a continuous model. In particular, we want to determine properties of the healing process (such as the closure time) and determine conditions for successful wound closure in 1 dimensional tissues.
