Particle Physics

TO MATTER OR NOT TO (ANTI)MATTER

In the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics, the only source of matter-antimatter asymmetry is the CP-violation mechanism arising from the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix. But in other models, such as the Two-Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM), other possible sources exist, coming from the interactions of the extra scalars in the model.

In this project, students will review existing literature on CP violation in the SM, in particular the B-meson oscillation observables. Then they will study the contributions of scalars and pseudoscalars of the 2HDM to those observables, and scan the available parameter space to verify what masses can the extra scalars have. This is an advanced research topic, which may result in a scientific publication.
